Born in Barcelona, Jordi Portabella i Calvete holds a degree in Biology from the University of Barcelona and a Master’s in Environmental Engineering. Currently, since mid-2021, he has been the Director of Futbol Club Barcelona Sustainability Area.

Previously, he pursued his professional career as the General Director of the Catalana Foundation for Research and Innovation, Director of the Research and Knowledge Area of the La Caixa Banking Foundation, as well as Councilor and Deputy Mayor of the Barcelona City Council. He has also served as a Member of the Parliament of Catalonia.

He has authored numerous articles related to science for various media outlets and has collaborated for five years in the ‘Science and Life’ supplement of La Vanguardia and in Catalunya Ràdio with his own space for scientific dissemination.

He is an Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Science and Art of Barcelona, Gold Medal and Brilliant Stars of Tourism of Catalonia, and Gold Medal of the Barcelona Trade Fair.
