Jordi Cortina-Segarra is Professor of Ecology at the University of Alicante (Spain) and member of the Board of Directors of the Society for Ecological Restoration, for 10 years he has been president of the European chapter of this Society. He is a founding member of the Ibero-American and Caribbean Society for Ecological Restoration (SIACRE, now SER-IAC).
He specialises in dryland ecology and restoration. His current research focuses on participatory and systematic restoration planning and education and training in training cycles and university teaching on this subject. With extensive experience working with policy makers and practitioners in the public and private sectors, he has authored 197 articles, including 83 in SCI journals, and has supervised 12 PhD students and 16 MSc students. He coordinated the ecological restoration section of the Ecological Basis for the Spanish Strategy for Green Infrastructure, Connectivity and Ecological Restoration.
His contributions have promoted new paradigms in dryland restoration and encouraged the implementation of innovative restoration practices. For 30 years he has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses in ecological restoration and coordinated the M.Sc. programme in Restoration and Management of Natural Environments at the UA.
