Aleh Cherp is a Professor at Central European University and Lund University,
and a leading scholar on how fast — and under what conditions — the world
and individual countries can decarbonise. His research on the feasibility of
energy transitions, published in Nature Energy, Nature Climate Change and
other journals, examines why transitions succeed, stall, or fail, and what that
means for the security and reliability of energy supply.
He led the energy security section of the Global Energy Assessment and
currently serves as a Lead Author on long-term energy and climate scenarios
for the IPCC’s Seventh Assessment Report. His work helps governments and
businesses understand the real-world pace of the transition to clean energy and
the interaction of this transition with energy security challenges.
