Antonio Soria is an industrial engineer (1985) with a degree in Economics (1998). He obtained his Doctorate in Energy Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid in 1990. After working for the CIEMAT (Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas), a public research body assigned to the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, he joined the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) in 1990. There he spent some years working on numeric methods applied to industrial security in the nuclear field.
He joined the JRC’s Institute for Prospective Technological Studies in 1994 where he worked on providing techno-economic policy analysis related to the energy sector, climate change, environmental economics and transport related issues, in coordination with the corresponding services of the European Commission. As of 2010, he is Head of Unit of the JRC’s Economics of Climate Change, Energy and Transport Unit where he has collaborated in the economic analysis, advice and policy impact as well as studies lead by DG CLIMA, DG ENER Y DG MOVE.
He is co-author of more than 100 papers, monographies and book chapters about numerical analysis, energy economy, carbon emissions and techno-economic analysis on energy technologies.
