Dr. Vanessa Tabernero holds a PhD in Chemistry, awarded with Extraordinary Doctorate Prize by the University of Alcalá (UAH). She is an Associate Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at UAH. She served as Deputy Dean of the Chemistry Degree from 2017 to 2023 and is currently Director of Alumni and Employability at UAH. She is a member of the SOSCATCOM research group.
Her research has focused on the design of catalysts for polymerization in both homogeneous and heterogeneous phases, working with petro‑based and bio‑based polymers. She has participated in more than 30 research projects and has been Principal Investigator on three of them.
Her scientific output includes 29 research articles published in JCR‑indexed journals and more than 30 contributions to national and international conferences. She is co‑author of a book on “Nomenclature of Inorganic Chemistry”. She has co‑supervised four PhD theses and several Bachelor’s and Master’s theses.
She is highly active in scientific outreach, having organized events for Science Week (2019–2023), the European Researchers’ Night (2021), and “Química en Acción” (2018–2024). In 2020 and 2022 she received the UAH award for her scientific dissemination work in the category “Most Innovative and Original Formula for Bringing Science to Society”. In 2025 she also received a dissemination award from UAH for a promotional science video. She has been awarded three research “sexenios” and four teaching “quinquenios”.
