Ms. Elvira Carles

Director of Fundación Empresa & Clima

Elvira Carles is the Director of Fundación Empresa & Clima. She holds a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Barcelona; a Master’s degree in Water Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, and a Master’s degree in Occupational Risk Prevention from the same university. She has also pursued various studies at the ESADE Business School in Barcelona.

Her joining the Empresa & Clima Foundation responds to the need to address the latent demand of companies of any sector and size in the face of the needs, doubts, and questions arising from environmental regulations, specifically the climate emergency. Her professional activity encompasses various areas; until her appointment as the first executive of the Foundation in February 2008, she was responsible for the Environmental Area of the Chamber of Commerce and Navigation of Barcelona, a position she held since the year 2000.

Throughout her professional life, she has directed departments for the management, treatment, and recovery of industrial and urban waste in several companies. In an earlier stage, Elvira Carles set up different water analysis and control laboratories for subsequent treatment and distribution. Among the companies she has worked for are: Browning-Ferris Industries; Gestió Tractament i Recuperació; Eco-logica, and Societat General d’Aigües de Barcelona.

In the teaching field, Elvira Carles has taught classes in the Pharmacy, Biology, and Chemistry degrees at the University of Barcelona, and in various postgraduate and Master’s programs on waste treatment, water, energy, and climate change, highlighting the analysis of the results of the United Nations Conference of the Parties (COPs) of each year, as she has participated as an Observer in all of them since 2008.
