Adonina Tardón is a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery, Specialist in Preventive Medicine and Public Health, a member of the National Health Medical Corps and Emeritus Professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Oviedo.
She has extensive experience in university teaching and epidemiological research. She has supervised more than 25 doctoral theses. She directs the Environmental and Occupational Epidemiology Group of the University Institute of Oncology, IUOPA and the Institute of Health Research of the Principality of Asturias (ISPA).
She is an expert in environmental and occupational epidemiology. She has more than 30 years of experience in environmental cancer epidemiology research. She is a member of a large international collaboration network in cancer prevention and control and in childhood and environment.
She has published 443 scientific articles in JCR journals, with an H index of 69, and 16684 citations received. She is the most productive researcher at the University of Oviedo in the thematic area of Public Health. She is also among the top 20 (17th position) in productivity in Spain, in the same category. Finally, to highlight a ranking, in February 2022 and also in February 2025, she will be among the top 100 research scientists in all disciplines in terms of production in Spain and will occupy the first place in Asturias in this ranking of women scientists carried out by the CSIC in Spain (Centro Superior de Investigaciones Científicas).
She has directed more than thirty research projects in environmental epidemiology at national and international level. She is currently the Principal Investigator in Asturias, of the European Project Cancer Prevention at Work that seeks to eradicate chronic infection by Helicobacter Pylori due to its association with stomach cancer and of the COHORTE INMA Asturias, integrated in the INMA project.
Finally, he is a member of the Research Ethics Committee of the Principality of Asturias, of the Asturias Health Council and of the Agenda 2030 Chair of the University of Oviedo. The Government of the Principality of Asturias has awarded him the Gold Medal of Asturias 2024 for his scientific and professional career and for his research in environmental epidemiology.
