Fernando Varela de Ugarte is the Co-Director of LEAD Sustainability, an initiative that promotes the integration of sustainability into businesses through training and consulting. Professionally, he has worked for 20 years in the private sector as the Director of the Institutional, Economic, and Social Development Division of a multinational engineering firm, as well as being in charge of its sustainability strategy. He is also currently leading a sustainability consultancy firm, Socialgob, and is the co-director and instructor of training programs in corporate sustainability and sustainable finance. He holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, with a dissertation on internationalization and sustainable companies.
