Mr. Eduardo de Miguel
Director of Fundación Global Nature
Nature-based solutions refer to a set of actions and policies that take advantage of natural ecosystems to address societal challenges such as water shortage, natural disaster risk and climate change. These solutions promote the protection, restoration and sustainable management of ecosystems, enhancing their resilience and capacity to respond to social challenges, as well as protecting biodiversity and improving the quality of human life.
Unlike conservation, which focuses on preserving biodiversity and natural resources for the future, nature-based solutions include a variety of approaches, from habitat restoration to green infrastructure and water resource management. The central idea is that healthy, well-managed ecosystems provide essential benefits, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, securing water resources, improving air quality and strengthening food security.
